Scholarship Information & Qualifications
Six one-time scholarships | $1,000 each
CMS Electric Cooperative, Inc. awards six one-time $1,000 scholarships each year to help eligible high school graduates continue their education. Each recipient receives one award only; the scholarship is not renewable or recurring.
Who may apply
Current high school seniors whose parent or legal guardian is a CMS member are eligible. The application must identify the parent or legal guardian by the name on the CMS membership record and provide the matching membership / capital credit number; an unrelated grandparent’s membership does not qualify. Applicants must intend to enroll full-time at an accredited college, university, community college, or vocational or technical college.
Applicants are considered without regard to race, age, color, religion, gender, national origin, or physical disability.
How scholarships are evaluated
The Scholarship Committee considers scholastic achievement, school extracurricular activities, and community activities. Applicants must be willing to attend an interview if requested. The committee’s decisions are final. Alternates may receive an award if a selected recipient forfeits it.
How to apply
1. Complete the Scholarship Application in full.
2. Include one recommendation letter from a high school principal, guidance counselor, academic advisor, or employer with the application.
3. Submit the completed application and recommendation letter together. Both documents are required for a complete application.
DEADLINE: Friday, February 12, 2027, by close of business. CMS must receive the complete application and recommendation letter by this date. Postmarks do not count.

Where to send your application
Email completed packet: erogers@cmselectric.com (attach clear, legible PDF scans of the application and recommendation letter together in one email).
Mail completed packet: Scholarship Committee, CMS Electric Cooperative, Inc., PO Box 790, Meade, KS 67864.
In-person delivery: Meade or Coldwater CMS office.
Award and payment conditions
Each recipient must provide satisfactory proof of college enrollment before payment. CMS makes one $1,000 payment per award directly to the educational institution. No subsequent or recurring payments are provided.
If a recipient withdraws, any unused scholarship funds must be reimbursed to CMS Electric Cooperative, Inc. If other financial assistance constitutes a full scholarship, the recipient must notify CMS and relinquish this award; it may then be offered to an eligible alternate.
